In my work I aim to
engage the poetics of language, the psychosexual, the power politics
embedded in the fabric of the every-day. Personal/privatized
dramas are teased out sometimes close to oblivion-to arrive at
a 'place' of not one specific narrative. But a discordant orchestral
mess/harmony of many small stories told in light, sound and color.
Physical objects are taken from the everyday and are made to
perform.
Within the videos, I attempt to re-look, re-examine,
to deconstruct the image of 'me' (and 'you'), the self/other
are displaced.
I ask questions about a 'me' which is assumed,
performed, assigned, suggested, fixed, unfixed-unwoven. A 'self'
which is (un) defined by lineages (physical and social) 'othered'.
(And re-othered) and 'reeled', displaced within the video loop.
Within the performance within the sound or lack thereof. The
self within in a 'play' as part of a series of other images that
preceded it. De-coded to deconstruct-not only the image but the
space in which the codes relating to the image are read, assigned
and renegotiated…. the space of the socially-constructed
viewer, the other, the reader, the writer and the self.
